Tumkur Tamarind is famous for its fruit having sweet-sour taste and it’s pulp. Tumkur district is one of the biggest market for tamarind in India. Tumkur Tamarind is basically processed as seedless, without pod’s fibre and in free flow form. Tumkur Tamarind adds flavour to South Indian Cuisine especially Sambar and Rasam. While making tamarind paste, residue will be minimal.
Older the tamarind, softer it becomes. Usually tamarind from other places will become hard as it becomes old but tamarind from Tumkur gets softer and softer when it gets old and such old tamarind will add extraordinary flavour to the dish.
